Odour Control
Dry Chemical

Location: Dunoon WWTW

Client: Scottish Water

Completed: 2011

Project Information

Background:

The new works were designed to remove 21 untreated sewage outfalls into the firth of Clyde along the stretch of coastline from Sandbank in the North to Bullwood in the South.

Dunoon WWTW is a compact site which nestles in the Bullwood Quarry, and required 12,000m3 of rock removed from the quarry floor under a 100m high cliff face.

The limited space and the proximity of the quarry walls presented some significant challenges for the design and the installation of the odour control system which was overcome by using a specialist climbing team to secure the tensioning wires for the emission stack, to the quarry rock face.

Application:

A two-stage scrubbing system to continuously remove odours from air extracted from the various specified plant areas.

Solution:

Design, supply and install a two stage odour control scrubbing system which comprises a Kombi-Skrub™ Catalytic Iron Filter (CIF) and a carbon filter acting as a final polishing stage. The CIF unit acts as a roughing filter removing up to 80% of the Hydrogen Sulphide before it passes to the carbon unit thereby increasing the lifespan of the activated carbon and reducing the operational costs associated with media change outs.

Performance:

Achieved the required odour abatement with 99% odour removal.

Project Data:

Flow Rate:                         1,077m3/hr

Odour Challenge – In:     128ppm H2S

Odour Challenge – Out:  99% odour removal

Footprint:                           23m2
